Auto Insurance Bill Gets Hearing

A bill to roll back some costly car insurance requirements gets a hearing at the Capitol. The bill’s author, state Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), said there’s been more than enough finger pointing over the changes to mandatory auto insurance requirements which where included as part of the state budget.

Despite a new provision to make insurance mandatory, Nygren believes increases in premiums will have the unintended consequence of forcing many more people to drive without insurance than is the case now. “The basis for people to be able to buy insurance is their cost, and what’s going to be coming out of their pockets,” said Nygren. “People are struggling, they’re going to be making decisions about what they can afford.”

Confusing Auto Insurance Policies

A large proportion of motorists in the UK have admitted that they do not fully understand the terms and conditions of their auto insurance policies.

A new survey found that 42 per cent of drivers taking out auto insurance are not certain about some aspects of their policies, with 18 per cent claiming that providers deliberately set out to confuse them.

Some 17 per cent of respondents said they thought fully comprehensive meant they can drive any car and still claim on their own policy, 51 per cent have no idea what material facts are and 23 per cent are stumped by the concept of voluntary excess.

Car insurance is very complex, so this means that the wording used in policy terms and conditions can be fairly complicated.
